The work

The ledger work that keeps landing on a partner's desk

There is a band of work that is above a bookkeeper and below a partner: the accruals nobody documented, the balance sheet accounts that get reconciled when someone finds an hour, the reporting package that gets rebuilt from scratch every quarter. It stays there because delegating it properly requires someone who can be trusted with the general ledger. That is the seat this page is about.

What this seat covers

  • Journal entries
  • General ledger maintenance
  • Accruals & prepaids
  • Balance sheet reconciliations
  • Financial reporting support

Technical depth is tested before you ever meet a candidate — role-specific accounting exams are gate two of six on our screening funnel.

How a staff accountant placement works

Four steps you care about, out of the seven we run.

  1. 01

    Discovery call

Thirty minutes on the scope: which accounts, whose review, what your reporting calendar demands.

  2. 02

    We recruit and screen

Six gates — English, role-specific accounting exams, software assessments, references, a panel interview, and then yours. Fewer than 5% get through.

  3. 03

    You interview the shortlist

Meet 2–3 finalists and test them on your own ledger scenarios. Nobody joins your firm without your yes.

  4. 04

Training, onboarding, and then every day after

Training on your close calendar and workpaper standards, security onboarding, then ongoing HR, payroll and performance management from us.

The full seven steps and all six screening gates are on the how it works page.

One flat monthly fee covers all of it

Staff accountant seats start at $6,000 per month — our most requested seat. That is the whole number: recruiting, employment, equipment and management included, with no placement fee at the front and no penalty at the back.

Questions firms ask about this seat

Do they know U.S. GAAP, or will I be teaching it?

Accounting knowledge is tested before you meet anyone — role-specific technical exams are gate two of our six screening gates, covering the ledger work this seat actually does. Beyond that, we train to your firm's conventions during onboarding, because workpaper standards, materiality thresholds and review notes differ from firm to firm regardless of who you hire.

Can a staff accountant work under my senior's review, in our review workflow?

Yes. They are a member of your team, in your systems, on your reporting lines — so your review workflow applies to them exactly as it applies to anyone else on staff. You direct the work and set the review standard. We handle everything an employer handles behind that.

How is this different from an outsourced accounting service?

An outsourced service gives you a shared pool and a ticket queue: the work comes back, but you do not know whose hands it passed through. This is one named professional who works only for your firm, whom you interviewed and approved. The difference shows up most in the ledger work, where continuity and knowing the client history are most of the job.

How quickly can a staff accountant start?

Typically 2–4 weeks from discovery call to first day: roughly two weeks to a shortlist, then your interviews, then training and security onboarding. We do not shorten that by shortening the screening.
