Is this a controller, or support for our controller?
Either, and the distinction is worth settling on the discovery call. Some firms place this seat as the person who runs the close day to day under a partner's review; others place it under an existing controller to take the coordination and reporting load off them. The role definition we write after the call says explicitly which one you are buying, including where the review line sits.
Can controller support work across our fractional CFO client base?
Yes, and fractional CFO firms are one of the four kinds of firm we build for. The seat is full-time and exclusive to your practice, so you allocate it across clients as your engagements shift. What we would flag: the more distinct reporting packages a single seat carries, the more onboarding time it needs before it is genuinely faster than doing it yourself.
How senior are the candidates for this seat?
Senior enough that the shortlist takes longer to assemble than for any other role we place — which is the honest way to say it, rather than quoting an average years-of-experience figure we would then have to defend on every search. You will judge seniority directly: you interview the finalists, on your own close and reporting scenarios, and nobody joins your firm without your approval.
Will they present to our clients?
That is your decision. Most firms keep client-facing presentation with their partners and use this seat to build the package, the KPIs and the commentary behind it. If you do want the seat client-facing, tell us on the discovery call — it changes what we weight in screening, particularly on communication.
